About SC Equality

Since its founding in 2002, SC Equality (originally known as South Carolina Equality Coalition) has consistently worked to advance civil and human rights for GLBT South Carolinians and their families.

To fulfill this mission, SC Equality works through three partner organizations: South Carolina Equality, Inc. (SCE), South Carolina Equality Coalition, Inc. (SCEC), and SC Equality PAC (SCE PAC).

While SCE and SCEC were originally organized as coalitions of GLBT and progressive organizations, they have provided leadership as independent educational and political advocacy organizations, respectively since 2008.

South Carolina Equality, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational organization:

SCE works to educate decision makers, the LGBT community, and the public about our issues, and works to organize and mobilize LGBT residents and allies to advance equality throughout the state.   SCE is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

South Carolina Equality Coalition, Inc., a 501 (c)(4) political organization focused on advocacy and legislation:

SCEC is political action and advocacy organization that engages in lobbying the legislature and other policy makers throughout the state to enact fair legislation to advance equality for LGBT South Carolinians. SCEC is a 501(c)(4) organization, and as such, contributions to the Coalition are not tax deductible.

SC Equality PAC:

SCE PAC works to elect fair minded candidates to office, regardless of party affiliation. It was established in 2012 as a registered Political Action Committee with the SC State Ethics Commission. As a state PAC, focuses on elections for municipal, county and state offices.  It is not authorized to participate in Federal elections.  Donations are not tax deductible.
